Siesta Key

Canals honeycomb throughout the many neighborhoods of Siesta Key, making the eight miles of beach and bay front a sight to behold. The addition of well-structured condos, convenient boat docks and shops and services even make Siesta Key more attractive to real estate speculators and vacationers alike.

There are various types of single homes and condominiums in Siesta Key that offer great vistas of the sunsets at the Gulf of Mexico. Making the sights of sun from dusk till dawn and all hours in between are the pristine beaches and pure sands that marks the end of azure gulf water. Speckles of docks in bay sides are what sailors and yachters even more attracted to the Siesta Keys.

On the north end of the key is “the Village” where fun and frolic never ends. It houses various shops, restaurants and leisure spots for locals and tourists alike. The condos in the area add magic and practicality to this area where the beach and the bustle of fun is just a few minutes from the beach.

Siesta Key’s Crescent Beach has been tagged to be among the ten best beaches in the world. The sands are as fine and as white as sugar, plus the fact that it never gets hot even on midday, makes it a magnet for beach lovers. Near the Crescent Beach are the largest single family homes.

Nearby is the Big Pass, a sand bar that is hugged by the Gulf of Mexico. Being so, it is perfect for snorkeling and lazing around to get the perfect tan.

On the south end of Siesta Key is Turtle Beach, aptly named for the animals that frequently crawl in the sands and thick foliage by the beaches.  To keep the animals protected and preserved, their nests are marked during summer months.

Turtle Beach properties are mostly condominiums and small homes on a private sand road, with a spacious parking space. There are areas that are being renovated and remain closed for rock filling after a recent bout with beach erosion. Way ahead would be Midnight Pass which will be opened in the next few years, while south of the area is Casey Key. With a short boat ride is Potter Park.

Siesta Key boasts of natural beaches, protected mangroves and ecosystems, as well as strong protection measures for the habitats of native island birds. There are also dolphins, manatees, fishes and other marine animals that make swimming among the key’s beaches a great adventure.

In 1987, Siesta Key was dubbed as the best in International Sand Contest which is a worldwide ranking of beaches. David Aubrey, director of Coastal Research in Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute of Massachusetts, judged Siesta Key sands to be the whitest and with the finest texture. Considering the entries are from the Bahamas, Antigua and Barbados, the acclaim is truly an honor for the locals, and a challenge as well to make their beaches stay a favorite spot for vacationers and tourists.

In addition, Siesta Key has garnered a moniker as the Crystal Beach because Harvard geologists concurred that its sand are 99% pure quartz. That is why month after month, more people strip their feet of shoes and sandals and walk around the sands to experience the feel of tiny crystals on their toes.
